Negatives
The Negatives page is the Pilot list of every negative keyword and negative product target in the account, with an Add Negative window to create more. Words such as negative keyword, negative target, match type and ad group are explained in the Amazon advertising glossary; Pulse Pilot's own words are on Pulse Pilot Vocabulary. Negatives are also created from the Search Terms page, by harvest rules and by negation rules; this page lists them all.
Open Performance → Negatives. Each editable control below is marked Required, Optional or Preselected. Required means the Add button stays disabled until it is filled.
Tabs and counters
Negative Keywords / Negative Targets. Preselected (Negative Keywords). Switching tabs reloads the list and clears the selection.
Counters. Total, Enabled, Neg Exact, Neg Phrase, Campaign Level and Ad Group Level, counted over every row of the tab, not the filtered list.
Filters
Search. Optional. A text box; the keyword or target text must contain it.
Match Type. Preselected (All Match Types). Neg Exact, Neg Phrase, and on the keywords tab Neg Broad.
Status. Active, All States, Archived. See Good to know for the first-load quirk.
Level. Preselected (All Levels). Campaign Level, negatives with no ad group; Ad Group Level, negatives inside an ad group.
Campaign. Preselected (All Campaigns). One campaign, from a list that includes archived campaigns.
Campaign Tag. Optional; shown when the account has tags. A row passes only if its campaign carries every selected tag.
Clear. Resets every filter, setting Status to Active, and the row count beside it reads "N negatives".
Columns
Checkbox; Keyword or Target; Match Type (Neg Exact, Neg Phrase, Neg Broad); Level (Campaign or Ad Group); Campaign; Ad Group; State (enabled, paused or archived); Added, the date the row was created. Sorting is by the chevron in the Keyword, Match Type, Campaign, State and Added headers; the same column flips direction; another column starts descending. Preselected (Added, newest first). Keyword, Match Type and Campaign can be resized by dragging the header edge; double-click resets. There is no column picker and no paging: every row that passes the filters is shown. The table options control switches grid lines, the crosshair and the zoom.
Add Negative
Add Negative opens "Add Negative Keyword" or "Add Negative Target" for the current tab.
Keyword Text or ASIN / Target. Required. One entry per line.
Match Type. Preselected (Negative Exact). Negative Exact, Negative Phrase, and on the keywords tab Negative Broad. Not used for targets.
Level. Preselected (Campaign Level). Campaign Level or Ad Group Level; changing it clears the ad group.
Campaign. Required. A searchable list of the account's campaigns that are not archived.
Ad Group. Shown for Ad Group Level once a campaign is chosen: a dropdown of that campaign's ad groups, or a note that it has none.
Add Negative. Disabled until text and a campaign are in place. The negatives are created on Amazon at once; a message then reports how many were added, how many already existed and how many failed, and the list reloads. When the account's live writes are off for the campaign, the message says the change was not applied.
Bulk actions
The header checkbox selects every row in the current list; row checkboxes select one. Archive marks the selected rows archived; with Status on Active they leave the list. Clear empties the selection.
Good to know
- Archive here changes Pulse Pilot's record only. It marks the rows archived in the app and sends nothing to Amazon, so the negative keeps blocking traffic on Amazon. There is no confirmation step. To stop a negative on Amazon, archive it in Amazon Ads.
- Negative Broad is saved as Negative Exact. Amazon has no broad negative; a keyword added with Negative Broad lands on Amazon and in this list as Neg Exact.
- Status shows Active on first load but the list shows every state. Until you change the Status dropdown or press Clear, archived rows are included. Pick Active once to apply it.
- The targets tab's Match Type has nothing to match. Negative targets are stored by expression type, not match type, so the Neg Exact and Neg Phrase counters and filter show nothing useful on that tab.
- Ad Group Level with no ad group chosen still submits. The window does not stop you; the request goes out with a blank ad group and fails at Amazon. Pick the ad group, or choose Campaign Level.
- No per-row actions, no export. Rows can only be selected and archived; the Search Terms page is where a term becomes a negative with its numbers beside it.
