Harvest Rules

Harvest Rules is the Pilot builder for rules that scan a campaign's search terms and promote the ones that meet your conditions into keywords or targets in destination campaigns, with negatives added where you say. This page lists every control on the rules list and in the rule editor. Words such as search term, match type and negative keyword are explained in the Amazon advertising glossary; Pulse Pilot's own words, such as harvest and Autopilot, are on Pulse Pilot Vocabulary. Saved mappings from Campaign Mapping can be loaded into a rule.

Open Automations → Harvest Rules. Each editable control below is marked Required, Optional or Preselected. Required means Save stops until it is filled.

The rules list

All / Active / Inactive. Pills that filter the list by the rule's active switch.

Run All. Opens the run window for every active rule. + New Harvest Rule opens the editor.

Counters. Total Rules, Active, Inactive, and Rules Run Today.

The table. One row per rule: the active switch, the rule's number and name; When, the schedule; If, the first condition with the lookback and a "+N more" chip that expands the row; Then, how many destination campaigns it promotes to, or Neg-only; Last Run; Next Run, shown as a local time with the UTC hour, or a dash for an inactive rule. Row actions: Run now, View rule log, Edit rule, Delete rule (asks "Delete this harvest rule?"), and a chevron that expands the row to show every condition, every destination with its match types and bids, and the sources.

Selection bar. The header checkbox selects every rule; with a selection the bar offers Run Now (one run per selected rule, live, no dry run), Pause, Enable, Delete (asks to confirm) and Clear.

The run window. Opened by Run now or Run All. Dry Run is Optional and off: ticked, the run logs what it would promote and adds nothing. Force Re-harvest is Optional and off: ticked, terms already in the harvest log are considered again. The button reads Test Run with Dry Run ticked and Run Live without.

View rule log. A window with the rule's harvest log, newest first, 500 entries at a time with Load older: time, search term, match types added, source campaign, target campaign, and the CPC, clicks and orders the term had when it was harvested. The search box filters the loaded entries by term.

The editor

← Back and Cancel leave without saving. The Active / Inactive switch in the header is Preselected (Active) for a new rule. Save Rule is disabled while the name is blank.

Rule Name

Rule Name. Required. A text box.

Schedule

Frequency. Preselected (Daily). Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly. See Good to know about Weekly and Monthly.

Time. Shown for Daily. Preselected (06:00). A dropdown of the 24 hours.

Lookback Period. Preselected (30 days). 1 to 7 days, 14, 30, 60, 90 days, or All time. One lookback applies to every condition in the rule.

IF Search Term Conditions

Each condition row is a metric, an operator and a value. + AND adds a condition that must also be true; + OR starts a new group, and the rule fires when any group is true. The × removes a row when there is more than one.

Metric. Preselected (Clicks). Performance: ACoS, ROAS, Clicks, Impressions, CVR, CTR, CPA, CPC, Orders, Spend, Sales. Text: Search Term Contains, Search Term Does Not Contain.

Operator. Preselected (>). >, <, >=, <=, =. Hidden for the text metrics.

Value. Optional; a blank is saved as blank and never matches. A number, or text for the text metrics.

Source → Destination groups

A rule holds one or more groups. Each group is one source and its destinations. + Add Source → Destination Group adds a group; the trash icon removes one.

Source Campaign. Optional; a group without one contributes destinations with no source. A search box listing the account's SP and SB campaigns, up to 50 matches, with an SP or SB badge; the chosen campaign shows as a pill with an × to clear it.

Source ad group. Optional; Preselected (All ad groups). A dropdown of the source campaign's ad groups. SB campaigns show "Ad groups not available for SB campaigns".

Load Mapping (N). Appears when the source campaign has a saved mapping on the Campaign Mapping page. It lists the saved rows; Apply — replace destinations swaps this group's destinations for the mapping's: campaign, ad group, Exact, Phrase and Broad match types, one bid for all of them, and the negate-in-source switches. See Good to know for what does not carry over.

Each destination is a numbered card with an × and a mode switch: Existing campaign (Preselected) or New single keyword/PAT campaign.

Existing campaign

Campaign. Optional on save; a search box over the account's campaigns.

Ad group. Optional. A dropdown of the destination campaign's ad groups; disabled until a campaign is chosen. SB destinations have no ad group choice.

As · Bid. Four match-type toggles, Exact (Preselected on), Phrase, Broad and ASIN; each one that is on shows a bid box, Preselected (0.75), a number of at least 0.02. A harvested term is added once per match type that is on.

Use source campaign's CPC. Optional; off. Ticked, the Exact, Phrase and Broad bid boxes are filled with the term's average cost per click in the source campaign; the ASIN bid is not.

After promoting: negate in source. Three toggles, Exact, Phrase and ASIN, all off. Each one that is on adds the harvested term as a negative of that kind in the source ad group after it is promoted.

+ Negate in additional sources. Optional. Opens rows of Also add as negative in: a campaign search, its ad group, and Neg Exact / Neg Phrase toggles that start mirroring the switches above. A row with a campaign and ad group but no match type shows "pick a match type" and is dropped on save. Rows pointing at the group's own source or this destination are also dropped.

New single keyword/PAT campaign

Creates one new campaign per harvested term instead of adding to an existing one.

Campaign Name Builder. Prefix and Suffix text boxes, Optional; the {keyword} and {match} parts, Preselected (on). The pieces are joined with " - " and the preview shows the result; the ad group is created with the same name.

Match Types. Preselected (EXACT). EXACT, PHRASE, BROAD, PAT - EXACT, PAT - EXPANDED; more than one can be on.

Daily Budget $. Preselected (10). A whole number of at least 1.

Bid $. Preselected (0.75). A number of at least 0.02. Use source campaign's CPC fills it from the source instead and disables the box.

Bidding Strategy. Preselected (Dynamic — Down Only). Dynamic — Down Only, Dynamic — Up & Down, Fixed Bids.

Bid Modifiers (%). Optional; Preselected (0). Top of Search, Product Pages, Rest of Search, whole numbers from 0 to 900.

SKUs / ASINs (one per line). Optional. The products the new campaign advertises. ⟳ Load from source copies the list from the campaign-creation record of the source campaign, when one exists.

Campaign Tag (optional). One tag from the Campaign Tags pool, attached to each new campaign.

After promoting: negate in source and Negate in additional sources work as in Existing campaign.

Extra negations that didn't land

Shown when editing a rule whose last run failed to write some of its additional negatives. Each row names the term, the campaign and the match type with the reason. ↻ Retry re-sends just that negative; it is disabled when the receipt has no ad group.

Good to know

  1. Only the name is checked. Save stops for a blank Rule Name and for nothing else. A destination with no campaign, a blank condition value, or an empty SKU list on a new- campaign destination is saved as it is.
  2. The Time dropdown says PST; the schedule runs on UTC. The When column and Next Run show the hour as UTC, and that is the hour the rule runs.
  3. Weekly and Monthly run daily. Both can be chosen; the list labels them Daily and the rule runs every day.
  4. Scheduled runs and Run Now differ. A scheduled run stages the new keywords in the harvest queue, which pushes them to Amazon shortly after; Run Now and Run All push to Amazon immediately.
  5. Load Mapping drops PAT. A mapping row with a PAT match type loads with no match type on; tick ASIN by hand. The mapping's single bid is applied to every match type.
  6. Autopilot's own rules are not here. The rules Autopilot builds for managed products are hidden from this list and cannot be run from it.
  7. No Preview and no Duplicate. Use Dry Run in the run window to see what a rule would do; build a similar rule by hand.
